In June of this year, Christopher Cummings, was shot and killed in the early hours of June 10th, during a premeditated home robbery in his fraternity home at Old Dominion University. Sadly, he was not alone. Jake Carey, his fellow fraternity brother was also a victim, left in critical condition from six bullets shot at close range. Throughout his life, Christopher lived to serve others and set an example through academic, vocational and humanitarian accomplishments. Being an advocate for the local youth, Christopher understood the need to protect and edify those around him.He was passionate about mentoring kids alongside his fellow Theta Chi fraternity brothers at ForKids, a nonprofit organization focused on ending poverty and homelessness for Norfolk’s youth. As a leader, Chris worked with kids as a big brother to educate them on the opportunities they didn’t know existed.He also understood the importance of an education by maintaining a 3.5 GPA in his major, Criminal Justice. This career decision was influenced by his uncle, Congressman Elijah Cummings . Christropher’s killers have yet to be found, and students continue to be victimized on a daily basis. It is for this reason that the Remember Christopher Foundation began . We strive to be an outlet of support to call for the passage of The CAMPUS Safety Act (H.R.2342/S.1749). This bill is represented by Congressman Bobby Scott, Congressman Elijah Cummings and Senator Mark Warner. Unfortunately, the CAMPUS Safety Act 2011 (H.R.2342) has yet to be passed & after the tragedies involving Virginia Tech, Kortneigh McCoy, Dominique Frazier and many more, the importance of this bill continues to grow. As an advocate for students and staff alike, The Remember Christopher Foundation has set it's sights on being a powerful message in fighting against losing any more students. We support raising awareness, promoting peace and the need for change in colleges and all schools in this country. We choose stand up for the lives lost to senseless college related crimes.

The Christopher Cummings Memorial Scholarship has been established as a living tribute to a young man, whose life was shortened by violence. As a positive gesture of friends and family, who loved him dearly, this scholarship will benefit graduating high school seniors in Chris’ home school district of Prince William County.

The Memorial Scholarship will be administered through the Apple Federal Credit Union Education Foundation. Contributions to the scholarship may be sent to: The Christopher Cummings Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 361, Dumfries, VA 22026.

Through promoting the importance of awareness, the CAMPUS Safety Act (H.R. 2342), and the well being of anyone involved in obtaining a higher learning, RFC dedicates itself to students and staff throughout college campuses.

Through events including the "Mind, Body & Soul" Peace Concert taking place at ODU, the Remember Christopher Foundation strives to be an additional voice of reason and safekeeping for our nation's future.
